Ironman Arizona Finish

Ooooohhh.......Mark, my husband is in an Iron Man Competion in Arizona, right now!!!  I think he should be finishing it very soon.  My phone ringing and finding him on the other end would give me a very big smile.  I hope he had a great time.

Hi Moonstar,  The conditions were rough - severe wind up to 40 mph at times.  Many couldn't finish because they became dehydrated.  He did the race with his brother and he had to drop out due to dehydration.  Mark said Greg had salt crystals all over his body.  It was intense but he finished in 11 hrs. 12 minutes - a personal best for him.  He said he is passing on the Arizona race from now on (done it twice) because it is so dry and with this one having the wind added was a killer.  He loves doing it though.

How close are you to Tuscon?  His brother and his wife live there.  It would actually be so fun to meet you in person one of these days.

I don't think he'll do another race there but we will be out there to visit.  A guy from our area did the race yesterday and bonked out.  Mark said this guy usually qualifies for Hawaii, which is no small feat - I think you need to complete under 10 1/2 hours to get in that race.  The wind was so strong that it wicked the sweat off, preventing the body's natural ability to cool itself…constant cycle until people were dropping off like flies.

I'll have to tell you sometime about my first Iron Man competion - cheerleading, of course.  It is like walking into another world.
